Street Cleansing

What happens with your money

The Council as the statutory litter authority operates a seven day a week street cleansing programme which during the summer months also runs into the evenings along some of the coastal locations.

With the district segregated into zones the road sweeping operations is scheduled into a number of different frequencies to ensure the Council complies with the Environmental Protection Act.  The Council is responsible for emptying all litter and dog bins.  Currently there is a trial of recycling litter bins in Ringwood and Lymington which if successful could lead to more being provided in other areas.

The Council is responsible for all litter picking including all major routes which has to be completed within set timescales as agreed with the Highways Authority and utilising the appropriate traffic management arrangements.

Removal of fly-tipping and the collection of abandoned vehicles is also a responsibility of this Council.  The abandoned vehicles are collected by a nominated contractor.
