Commercial waste and business rates

Waste collection costs are not included in National Non-Domestic Rates (business rates).

Business rates are calculated using the rateable value of the business premises and the central government's business rates multiplier. The business rates are used to help pay for local services.

Given that different types of businesses produce different types and amounts of waste, it would not be practical or fair to include waste collection and disposal in the business rates.

Businesses can arrange the collection or disposal of waste through many registered waste carriers, depending on what is best for their business.

Using the tip / household collections

Household collections are for waste arising from domestic properties only. They cannot be used for business waste, even if the business is run from the home. Businesses disposing of waste through the domestic stream will not have a waste transfer note and are breaking the law.

Most of Hampshire's HWRCs accept business waste for a small charge. You can find out more about what is accepted and the charges using the link below.
