Open Spaces

What happens with your money

Within the council's open space work for the health and leisure a range of activities takes place.  The open spaces maintained by the council are varied, from substantial areas on the cliff tops of Barton and Milford, to small areas within housing estates.  The council's environmental services team lead on the maintenance of these key areas.

Within these open spaces, the council has many important trees which provide essential benefits to those who live and work in the New Forest District.  All trees on open spaces of which need to be surveyed and managed.  There is a programme of inspection and works each year, with the main emphasis on maximising the benefits trees can provide and taking reasonable steps to ensure safety.

There is also a lot of work 'behind the scenes' with officers working with developers, town and parish councils and local clubs to ensure that projects take place, particularly when associated with new development.
