Enforcement of Highway Regulations

The Council is responsible for enforcing on street loading and waiting restrictions within the District (interactive map showing restrictions). Previously this was the responsibility of the Police. The change of responsibility has taken place to achieve

  • A greater emphasis on enforcement
  • The council will be more able to respond to residents concerns
  • Offences will no longer be a criminal but a civil offence and dealt with by a streamlined County court system
  • The Council can issue Penalty Charge Notices for parking adjacent to a dropped footway. adobe icon Procedure for enforcement can be viewed here. [13kb].

The Police will continue to be responsible for all moving offences, and all cases of obstruction.
