What are the Council's Public Open Space requirements?

Increased Public Open Space provision is required from new residential developments. The Public Open Space standard is provision of 3.5ha per 1000 population (see policy CS7). Developments on sites of 0.5ha or more will be required to provide informal open space on site, including the provision of play spaces.

Open Space contributions are being reviewed and an Open Space Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) covering charges and general requirements will be released for consultation in due course. This is likely to involve meaningful increases in fees charged to cover the costs of open space and play area handovers.

Until then our charges have been amended to reflect inflation. See adobe icon Fees and Charges - Open Space Maintenance Contributions [73kb]

They are now set as follows

Open Space £72,500 per hectare

Play Areas £160 per square metre (minimum charge £2,500)
