New Forest District Council is (still) looking for digital champions
Want a new year's resolution that is achievable? New Forest District Council is looking for volunteers to encourage, inspire and support New Forest residents in getting online and learning basic computer skills.
Portfolio holder Cllr Jill Cleary said, "There are so many services available on-line but the world wide web can be a scary place for people who aren't used to computers. We are looking for people who are able to spend a little time sharing their knowledge.
"We have had 11 people come forward and say they are interested in becoming Digital Champions so far, which is very encouraging. [But we have no one from Totton yet - one of the areas we will be starting this project in].
"If anyone is thinking of their New Year resolution being to help out their community, this could be the ideal way to do that."
The 'digital champions' will be confident in using computers and smart phones, searching the internet, using email and social media - offering one-to-one support on getting on-line. The volunteering will take place during hours to suit the volunteer.
The champions will receive training, and will be supported by the New Forest District Council staff. Mileage and out of pocket expenses will be covered.
People interested in becoming a Digital Champion can read more and register their interest using the online application form http://www.newforest.gov.uk/digitalchampion
