"Remember: safeguarding is everybody's business"

Safeguarding Policy and Procedures

The New Forest District Council delivers a varied range of services and functions which can bring employees, Members, volunteers and contractors into contact with children, young people and adults at risk. The Council is under a legal (and a moral) duty to ensure that its functions are discharged having regard to the need to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk. This duty extends to the identification of harm, abuse or poor practice by employees, Members, volunteers and contractors, as well as allegations brought to the attention of the Council by a member of the public.  We also need to protect all Council representatives from potential false allegations of abuse.

The Policy covers four separate but closely related topics: Child Safeguarding, Adult Safeguarding, Domestic Abuse and Prevent.

The Policy sets out the Council's legal duties and outlines the procedures that should be followed to report any safeguarding concern.
