Council tax bills being sent to 81,000 households

Households in the New Forest will this week (w/b Monday 13 March 2017) receive their council tax bills, along with a leaflet that aims to explain where the money goes and what it is spent on.

Ryan Stevens, housing and community services manager said, "Here at NFDC we are involved in delivering hundreds of services for the community and we wanted to explain a bit more about where our residents' council tax goes.

"NFDC keep 10pence from each pound we collect and then pass the rest to Hampshire County Council, town and parish councils, and the police and fire services. This makes the amount of council tax we receive from an average band D property £163 a year, or just over £3 a week."

Cllr Barry Rickman, NFDC's Leader, said "All public services are trying to deliver more for less, and we are no different. We have had our government grants reduced and it is tough, but we are committed to protecting the services our customers care about and have managed to make savings in a way that has had the minimum impact on our residents and considers the very special needs of this very special place"
