Community-led housing for the New Forest on the horizon

We have been awarded almost £1m of Community Housing Funds (CHF).

This new financial support is part of a national scheme for areas where second home ownership is high; making it more difficult for local people to carry on living in the area they grew up in.

Chris Elliott, Head of Planning, Economy, and Housing said, "The New Forest is a highly sought after area in which to live, meaning the demand for housing outweighs the supply. This means that prices here are prohibitive to many trying to access the rented and home ownership market.

"Community-led housing means local people can come together and provide housing to meet local need."

"We have contacted local communities, parish councils and neighbourhood plan areas to let them know about the CHF opportunity, so they can start thinking now about applying for funding and grants"

Examples of ways new housing could be developed using the CHF include, co-operatives, co-housing, self-build, and Community Land trusts.
