The majority of business financing organisations (see 'Financial Support') offer business support alongside the provision of monetary funds. For instance, successful applicants of the New Enterprise Allowance are offered a business mentor for up to 52 weeks to assist in the process of setting-up a new business.

Enterprise First

New Forest District Council have partnered up with Enterprise First to allow New Forest residents to have 90 minutes of free one-to-one business support at either the aspiring entrepreneurs place of work or other agreed location.

Topics like if the business idea is viable, the first steps, and possible funding or premises can be discussed.

Enterprise First also organises helpful events & workshops in Hampshire and has several useful resources on their website.

EM3 Growth Hub

Enterprise M3 is one of a network of Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) established by government around the UK. As part of each LEP is a growth hub which are designed to enable new or existing businesses to easily find the help they need.

New Forest is covered by two LEPs, so where your business is based will determine which growth hub to approach. Visit LEP Funding for more detail.

Enterprise M3 offer multiple channels of communication to seek advice from their Business Support Advisers, and if your business works within one of EM3's priority or niche sectors a dedicated Growth Champion may be assigned as part of a tailored growth service to you.

Local Networking Groups

Often the best people to gain advice from are those that have experienced the decisions and situations you are encountering, and attending local networking groups can be a great place to come into contact with these type of people.

Within New Forest District there is a host of local networking groups, each full of local entrepreneurs with a wealth of knowledge and experience.

To name a few - BNI Furlong (Brockenhurst), Forest Entrepreneurs (Lymington), Fore Business New Forest (Bramshaw Golf Club), Just Networking (Lyndhurst), New Biz (New Milton), New Forest Business Partnership (New Forest), Waterside Network Group (Butts Ash, Hythe)

The Department for International Trade (DIT)

The DIT provides tailored support and advice for businesses on how to start exporting or increase the amount of goods and services they sell overseas.

Support is provided in the form of guides, events or meetings with trade advisors.

Set-up and run by the government this helpline provides advice and signposting to aspiring entrepreneurs or existing business owners.

HMRC Small Business Online Forum

The Small Business Online Forum is a quick and easy way for small businesses to get answers to their tax questions, as well as help with starting a business, recruitment, importing & exporting, completing tax returns, and tax credits.

Officially launched in August 2017 the forum already has over 1,000 registered users.

Small Employer Offer

This scheme has been launched to support smaller employers to create more job opportunities for disabled people and people with health conditions.

This initiative is part of the government's aim of reducing the Disability Employment gap.

The help on offer is varied from the scheme and can include a payment of £500 to the small employer to enable employers to continue to support specific employees and manage any on-going needs.

Get Set for Growth

Providing support to both early stage and established businesses Get Set for Growth aims to tackle problems associated with business development (sales and marketing) and finance.

They offer a combination of Growth Programmes, 1:1 professional advisor support. and workshops, although the latter are often outside of Hampshire.

Also, as part of this establishment is GetSet Marine which launched in June 2017 and has its base in Southampton. This branch provides specialist services to the marine sector.

Prince's Trust

If your aged between 18 to 30-year-olds the Prince's Trust will help you turn your business idea into a reality through their Enterprise programme.

From training and mentoring support to funding and resources, the Prince's Trust can help you.

X-Forces

X-Forces provide mentoring, training and funding for those in the armed forces community looking to start their own enterprise.

Knowledge and skills on how to establish, run and expand a start-up from people with relevant experience can be gained.

Wheels to Work

Residents of New Forest aged between 16 to 25 can take advantage of this moped loan scheme enabling people to get to work, training, an apprenticeship or interview if they have no access to private or public transport.

For businesses in remote locations within the district this could make finding employees much simpler.

A moped can be loaned for three months to a year, and the cost can range from £17 to £20.
