Fees and Charges

Charges for Building Regulation applications depend upon the type of work you are carrying out and the type of application deposited.

Payments: These can be by cash or cheque made payable to New Forest District Council, or by debit or credit card by telephoning 023 80 285245.

General information and guidance

Full Plans charge: Where detailed drawings, specification etc. are being deposited for approval, the Plan Charge inclusive of VAT must accompany the application. The Inspection Charge, where applicable, will be invoiced after the first inspection.

Building Notice charge: Payable on submission of a Building Notice application. The Building Notice charge is generally more expensive than the Full Plans charge but does not require full plans of the work to be deposited for approval. The charge inclusive of VAT covers all site inspections.

Regularisation charge: Payable in respect to a submission made to regularise unauthorised work undertaken since 11 November 1985. Regularisation charges do not attract VAT and are available from Building Control.

Exemption from charges: Work to provide access or facilities solely for the benefit of registered disabled people in dwellings and buildings to which the public have access are not subject to Building Regulation charges.

Estimated cost of work:  This is an estimate based upon the reasonable amount charged by a person in business for carrying out the proposed work but exclusive of VAT and professional fees. There is no concession for DIY projects.
