Applemore learner pool to re-open this week

The learner pool at our Applemore Health and Leisure Centre will reopen for both swim academy and public swim sessions on Wednesday 15 November after investigations and surveys identified no structural defects.

James Binns, portfolio holder for health and leisure said, "I would like to thank our customers for their patience while we investigated the issues that led to the closure of the pool."

The well-used learner pool was closed at the beginning of September following the discovery of a hairline crack during routine inspections.  Extensive structural surveys and tests, including thermal imaging, have established that water seeping from the drainage channels around the pool is the cause of the cracking and water penetration.

Although the learner pool can now reopen, some further work is needed to protect the pool from future damage.

Ross Archibald, centre manager, said, "Whilst I am pleased that there are no structural issues we will in the near future need to carry out some works to the drainage channels on the learner pool.  Therefore, during our quieter time over Christmas we will be taking the opportunity to carry out remedial work of sealing the pool surround channels."

The Applemore learner pool will be closed from 13.55  on the 24 December and reopen on Monday 8 January.
