Silent Soldiers "Tommies"

Silent Soldiers We are delighted to note the arrival in the New Forest area of over 30 Silent Soldiers, or "Tommies" as they are sometimes known. The Tommy silhouettes commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War and those who lost their lives. They are life-size and are made by ex-Service Veterans employed by Royal British Legion Industries. A Silent Soldier is proudly located outside the entrance to our main offices at Appletree Court in Lyndhurst.

You should be able to see these life-sized silhouettes at various other prominent locations in the District including Ashurst, Fawley, Fordingbridge, Minstead, New Milton and Ringwood as we get nearer to the centenary. These have been provided by Town or Parish Councils or have been sponsored by other organisations or individuals.

The number of Silent Soldiers is likely to increase in the period leading up to Remembrance Sunday on 11 November.

As well as installing the Silent Soldiers, Town and Parish Councils have a number of other celebrations organised to mark the centenary anniversary.

This map shows where the Silent Soldiers are .

(We are making every effort to ensure the accuracy of the map, but is relying on Town and Parish Councils and other organisations to inform us of any new installations or changes in location and we cannot accept responsibility for any inaccuracy.)
