Coastal Management Plan

The Coastal Management Plan for New Forest District Council's coastline provides a wide range of information, policies and strategies relating to all aspects of activities and impacts in the coastal zone.

The Coastal Management Plan aims to:-

  • coordinate and integrate the management of the wide variety of activities on the coast that the Council and other agencies are involved with;
  • promote understanding and public awareness of the issues and problems associated with the coast;
  • provide relevant and interesting information; and
  • outline the programme schedule to implement the various policies, actions and proposals.

Although non-statutory, NFDC's Coastal Management Plan is widely regarded as leading the way in best practice for integrated coastal zone management. The production of the Coastal Management Plan has been an excellent example of inter-directorate and departmental co-operation. Officers representing Coastal Protection, Planning, Leisure, Landscape, Environmental Health and Land Drainage have reviewed and updated the Coastal Management Plan first published in 1997.

Maps and aerial photographs of the NFDC coastal zone will be available via an interactive Geographic Information System (GIS) based web link (unknown as of yet) which will enable the user to select and abstract information in connection with areas of interest.

All the information within the Coastal Management Plan is available to download free of charge. Please use with attribution.
