Chairman of the Council
The Chairman of the council is currently Councillor Goff (Godfrey) Beck.
District Councils are required by law to elect a Chairman each year. He or she is elected by all members of the council. The Chairman will not necessarily be a member of the majority political group on the Council. The Chairman chairs meetings of the full Council and in this role is expected to be totally impartial.
The Chairman of the Council is the Council's civic head and is the first citizen of the District. The Chairman takes precedence within the District over everyone except Her Majesty the Queen or her representative (usually the Lord Lieutenant of the County of Hampshire), or at events arranged by or on land owned by Hampshire County Council (when the Chairman of the County Council takes precedence).
As the Council's civic head, the Chairman welcomes members of the Royal Family when they visit the District, receives dignitaries and other visitors, hosts civic functions and attends numerous local events, large and small.
The Chairman welcomes opportunities to attend events arranged by local groups and organisations. If you would like the Chairman to attend an event you might be arranging, please see the link below "How to invite the Chairman", or contact Donna Langfield, the Chairman's Personal Assistant, on 023 8028 5588, or e-mail her on email@example.com
