Chairman of the Council

Cllr Allan Glass was born in 1944 and was educated in Southampton before becoming an Engineering Indentured Apprentice, including attendance at Southampton Technical Collage where he obtained his engineering qualifications.

Allan also trained by Plessey Dynamics in Quality assurance to aircraft standards and worked in engineering industry management in various sectors, weaponry, equipment for the disabled, developing specialist high powered boats, motor industry, extreme high volume ultra-high quality engineering.

He is qualified to full membership of the Chartered institute of Quality Assurance and the Chartered Institute of Management - MCMIQ & MCMI. He has worked in engineering management both in the UK and advised internationally.

Allan has many hobbies, he joined the Scout movement at the age of 8 and has enjoyed scouting from being a boy to a District Commissioner, now he chairs the Solent Scout Regatta Committee and continues to play an active role. He is also a crew member on the Alison McGregor, a boat that takes people who otherwise would not be able to go afloat out for a cruise around the Southampton area.

Allan had acute Myeloid Leukaemia at the age of 60 but had NHS experimental treatment that worked. He then helped to raise £2.5 million to build a much improved Leukaemia wing and also helped with the design. He is a fan of the NHS having had a double heart bypass and new valve in 2017.

Allan has been interested in Politics from the age of 16 and has been a Parish Councillor for over twenty years and a District councillor for two terms.

Allan will be marking his Golden Wedding anniversary with his wife Christine in 2019. They have two children, Suzanne and Robert, who are both grown up with families of their own.
