Help to Buy and Shared Ownership

If you are looking for a place to live in the area but can't afford to buy a home of your own.

Help To Buy South (email them or call 0800 456 11 88), is operated by Radian as the Government appointed agency. They provide a one-stop service for home ownership in the South of England.

Help to Buy South covers Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, plus areas in Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and Mendip. Their aim is to help you get a foot on the housing ladder.

Properties are developed by housing associations, backed by government funding, to provide high quality homes to buy for those who cannot afford to otherwise buy on the open market.

Funding may also be available to provide help towards buying a property on the open market and resale properties come up from time to time.

Priority is given to:

  • social tenants (housing association and local authority tenants);
  • serving military personnel;
  • those with local priorities,
    • a local connection may help you be a priority - this may be living and/or working in the area in which the property you are interested in is located;
  • other applicants,
    • most applicants will be first time buyers, but the schemes can help some buyers who have owned a home before, for example in the case of a relationship breakdown.

You must register through Help To Buy South to apply.
