Attachment of Earnings Orders - Guidance for Employers

An attachment of earnings order is an order imposed by the Courts to deduct money directly from the earnings of an employee to pay off their council tax debt.

Her Majesty's Court Service has produced a booklet to help employers understand their responsibilities to comply with the order.  This guide can be viewed via the following link  -  adobe icon Attachment of Earnings Handbook [730kb]

Please refer to Section 2.3 - Council Tax (England and Wales) and Annex E, which sets out the deduction tables for orders made after 1 April 2007.
