If you are a film, TV, or photographic company (or student) and wish to use public space in the district then please contact and provide the following details, being as specific as possible:

  • Company
  • Location
  • Dates/Times
  • Number of crew members
  • Equipment to be used
  • Evidence of your public liability insurance
  • Site specific risk assessment

The 'film: new forest' team will look at every request and send back a response as quickly as possible. Please ensure permission is sought as early in the production process as possible.

If the planned filming location is on New Forest District Council land permission can be given by the team.

If it is on parish council land then the team will signpost you to where permission must be sought.

If you already know that the location is on crown land then directly contact / Phone 0300 067 4600. View map of Forestry Commission sites.

Drones are permitted on council land (permission must be given from first and please be aware of UK law surrounding drone flying, see UK Civil Aviation Authority). On forestry commission/crown land drone flying is not permitted.

Typically a fee will only be charged for filming on council land if there is a cost implication on our side, such as the closure of a car park. Clarification can be given on a project-by-project basis from the Film: New Forest team. The Forestry Commission have their own guidelines on fees, consult for more information.

When filming in the district, we ask you are respectful of the environment, residents & visitors, and dispose of litter responsibly.

Depending on the nature and location of filming, you may also need to notify the police, any private landowners as appropriate, and the Highways Dept. (especially if road closures are required).

Visit the Film Hampshire website for more information and consult the Hampshire code of practice and filming guidelines

See the 'Why Film: New Forest', ' Previous Filming Projects', and 'Possible Filming Locations' page for more information.

Good luck with your project,
