Essential Maintenance & Refurbishment work

Latest update on the refurbishment project - Dated 13 November 2014

Swimming times for our opening weekend on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 November are 7.30am - 2.45pm public swimming and 3.00pm to 4.00pm Inflatable fun swim.  Come and join in the fun!

All Academy classes will start back on week commencing Monday 17 November - look out for Harry to welcome you back on the red carpet and mums and dads come and join us in the cafe for a free cuppa.

Much of the refurbishment work to the pool will not be obvious as the structural repairs and steel reinforcements are not actually visible!  What you will see is a re-tiled pool and pool surround, new triple glazed windows, a tidier poolside as it's all in our new equipment store, a new style finger grip tile that's easier to hold when you're in the pool and glass at the spectator viewing gallery so you get a good view of the swimming lessons.

We have also had a new treatment system installed that involves using less chemicals in the water making it feel and look cleaner and fresher.

Wet Changing Village
The wet change has been painted throughout and is looking very smart. New hairdryers have been installed and additional benches have been added to the accessible toilets - this will increase changing areas and ease congestion at busy times.  Reflections (sauna and steam) has been tiled throughout the rest area which gives a cleaner, smarter look to the area and a new water fountain installed outside the room for your use.

New Weights Room
Unfortunately we have experienced damage to the floor of the new weights room downstairs and already a broken mirror.  Both the floor and mirror have been fixed and we are just touching up paint work and bring the area back to the expected standard. Apologies if this has affected your training times over the last couple of weeks. Customers are reminded to put away weights after use and keep the room clear and safe for fellow users.

New Spin Studio
The new Spin Studio is now located upstairs within the main gym area. It is not only used for classes but can also be accessed any time the gym is open, to complement your workout. When attending spin classes please use the door at the top of the back staircase.

  • Brand new bikes have arrived and the initial feedback is good
  • New lighting enhances the ambience of the class and can be adjusted to a variety of different sequences
  • A new projector and DVD player allows you to go for a virtual spin to the top of Mont Ventoux or the Col du Galibier
  • A water cooler is available in the room for your convenience
  • Window frosting has been fitted to decorate the large windows and offer a degree of privacy
  • A new air conditioning unit has been installed including new air extractor units

Studio 1 is now our main aerobic studio. The majority of the group fitness programme will take place in this room. There is a new water cooler in the corridor for your convenience and seating to use whilst you wait for your class or your children attending their club sessions.

New dimmer switches for the lights have been fitted to aid the relaxation and set the mood in our mind body classes.

The new customer access equipment store has been constructed and is now being fitted out - this will allow you to collect your own hand weights, mats etc.

The Gym
The final pieces of kit from our initial order of Life Fitness equipment will be installed next week. Look out for the new Flex Striders in the main gym to supplement the range of brand new Life Fitness equipment already in position. For the majority of our customers, the transition to the new equipment has gone really well. If however, any of you are uncertain about using the new equipment or LF Connect (Smartphone technology) for your programmes and workouts, please talk to one of the Fitness Instructors.

The installation of the air handling system in the gym areas have taken longer than expected and we thank you for your patience with this.  The units should be commissioned this week resulting in cleaner fresher air being blown in and more effective extract of the stale air.

Open Day
Come and join us on our Open Day on Saturday 29 November from 10am to 4pm to showcase our facilities.  We are planning a full programme of Les Mills group exercise taster classes, bouncy castles and club demonstrations, free refreshments, free swimming with games in the pool, challenges and health checks in the gym, face painting, balloon modelling and a big prize hamper.  A pretty busy day!!
