Rural Affordable Housing
New Forest District Council has been a pioneering Council in developing planning policies aimed at addressing the needs of rural communities for affordable housing.
There are well established planning policies in the District which, as an exception to normal planning policies and subject to strict criteria, permit new small-scale housing development within rural communities where it meets an identified local housing need which would not otherwise be met.
In New Forest District (outside the National Park), adopted Core Strategy Policy CS22 'Affordable housing for rural communities', enables small scale affordable housing developments to meet the identified needs of local people to be provided. Suitable sites must be well related to existing communities, services and facilities. Occupation is normally restricted to a local person, which means someone who lives or works in, or who has strong connections with the settlement or parish in which the scheme is proposed.

Hampshire Alliance for Rural Affordable Housing (HARAH)
