2011/12 council tax - how much, where the money goes
2012/13 council tax - how much, where the money goes
Council Tax funds the services New Forest District Council provides together with those provided by Hampshire County Council, the Local Parish Councils, Hampshire Fire Authority and the Hampshire Police Authority. Central Government gives every council a Revenue Support Grant, based on the needs, resources and population of the local area. However, this is never enough to finance all the services. To make up the difference each Billing Authority charges Council Tax.
New Forest District Council will bill and collect Council Tax of over £98,000,000 this year from almost 80,000 dwellings.

Jailed for council tax arrears
The full year's Council Tax is payable over 10 monthly instalments, from 1 April to 1 January, due on the 1st of every month (choice of 1st or 15th by Direct Debit). The 'year' is the period 1 April to 31 March. If you get your council tax bill part-way through the year, the number of monthly instalments will be less than 10 and will depend on how many complete months are remaining in the year. If you move into (or out of) your home part-way through the year, your council tax will be 'apportioned' on a daily basis.
Don't be caught by this "scam"!
