Slow Play and Etiquette
Slow play and bad etiquette is an increasing problem on golf courses. These can be kept to a minimum by all players observing the following rules and will be especially helpful to golfers with limited experience.
- Learn and comply with the rules and etiquette printed on the score card.
- Do not play any shot until you are certain that other golfers are out of range.
- Shout 'FORE' if you think your ball could hit someone.
- Replace all divots, repair pitch marks on greens, and straighten out marks or footprints made in bunkers.
- When you have lost a clear hole in front of you, wave the following group through, then try to keep up.
- Walk briskly between shots.
- Be conscious of the 5 minute rule in looking for a lost ball. Only the player should spend time looking, while others hit.
- Try and decide what club you want to use before you get to the ball.
- Do not hit practice shots on the course.
- Do not waste time by taking excessive practice swings.
- Carry a spare ball in case you need to hit a provisional.
- Replace the cover on a wood as soon as the shot is over.
- Do not stop to give an amateur playing lesson to your partner.
- Before putting, always leave your bag alongside the green near to the next tee.
- Clear the green quickly and mark your scorecard as you walk to the next tee.
