Palm oil and other waxy substances

Advice on what to do if you find suspected palm oil or other waxy substances on the New Forest coast

Palm Oil Beach users are urged to take extra care on New Forest beaches following isolated incidents of a waxy substance being reported to the council.

The substance is a round, chalky-white substance with a slight smell of sulphur.

Most dog-walkers keep their dogs under control and away from suspicious substances but we advise them to take extra care during this time. Any owner who believes their pet has ingested the substance should seek advice from their vet.

If you come across suspected palm oil or other waxy substances on one of the New Forest beaches, you can contact customer services on 023 8028 5000 and report it.
