Upcoming community safety engagement and free bike registering sessions
1 May 2025
Starting this month, New Forest District Council's community safety team is hosting community engagement and free bike registering sessions across the district.
The events are taking place on:
• Wednesday 14 May (9am to 12pm), Ringwood Gateway
• Tuesday 20 May (9am to 12pm), Hythe market
• Saturday 24 May (10am to 4pm), Gang Warily recreation ground
• Thursday 29 May (10am to 12pm), Sway, Sway Youth Centre, Station Road
• Wednesday 18 June (9am to 12pm), New Milton market
• Wednesday 2 July (9am to 12pm), Lymington, St Thomas Street car park
• Wednesday 9 July (9am to 12pm), Totton, outside Totton Police Station
Each year, New Forest District Council hosts community engagement sessions in towns and parishes across the district. The team is joined by local neighbourhood police to engage with residents and visitors on topics such as crime and anti-social behaviour in the community.
At the sessions, the teams offer practical advice on crime prevention and discuss how the council and members of the community safety partnership, 'Safer New Forest', work as a collective to keep the New Forest a low crime area.
Residents are invited to bring their bikes where they can be marked with a unique reference number, which is added to the official national bike register database. Registering a bike on the database usually costs £19.99, but it will be free at these sessions.
Cllr Dan Poole, portfolio holder for Community, Safety, and Wellbeing at New Forest District Council, says: "These events provide an excellent opportunity for our residents to speak with us about crime and anti-social behaviour, and take up the offer to register their bike for free. By offering this, we hope this will reduce cycle thefts and reunite owners with their bikes if they are lost or stolen."
In 2024, New Forest District Council hosted 7 engagement events and marked a total of 152 bikes for free.
Residents can find bike safety advice, as well as community safety information, on the Safer New Forest website.
