Closure orders secured to help protect New Milton residents

16 May 2025

A legal order has been granted to help stop anti-social behaviour at two of our flats in New Milton.

The partial closure orders apply at flats in Fraser Court and Somerville Court, Marryat Road. It means no one apart from the tenant and authorised people can go into the properties for the next three months. If they do, they will be committing a criminal offence and can be arrested.

This action follows complaints about disturbances linked to drug related activity, shoplifting, and anti-social behaviour, which have affected the quality of life for nearby residents.

Our Housing Anti-Social Behaviour and Neighbourhood Team worked closely with Hampshire Police New Milton Neighbourhood Policing Team, to gather evidence and apply for the order, which was approved at Southampton Magistrates court on 15 May 2025.

Breaching a closure order is a criminal offence and could result in a fine or prison sentence.

Councillor Steve Davies, Portfolio Holder for Housing, said:

"No one should have to live with fear or ongoing disruption in their home or neighbourhood. This order has been put in place to protect residents and bring peace back to the area.

"Tackling anti-social behaviour is a key priority for the council and our police partners. We're taking action and will soon be asking for views on our Housing ASB strategy to help shape how we respond in future."

Residents who see anyone entering the properties without permission are asked to report it to the police on 101 or online. In an emergency, always call 999.

If you have concerns about ASB, you can contact Safer New Forest or call 02380 285000.
